The owl of Athens

Tetradrachms

The Athens Tetradrachm was the most widely used coin in Greece in the 5th century BC , under the reign of Alexander the Great. The front features the helmeted bust of Athena. The back is adorned by the famous owl.

The cut in the middle of the owl's head is the residual mark of an old test to determine whether the material of the coin is real silver or an imitation.

The twelve Gods of Rome

The twelve Gods of Olympus were the most revered deities of ancient Rome. The Romans divided the Gods into larger and smaller deities, signifying their respective importance and the scale of their veneration. Based on this, the Romans allocated the following ranking to their Gods: Jupiter, Neptune, Juno, Ceres, Apollo, Diana, Minerva, Venus, Mercury, Vulcan and Vesta. The worship of the twelve Gods was so huge that a common temple was built for them in the Roman forum, which was called Porticus Deorum Consetium.  However, according to historians the real home of the Gods is Mount Olympus in Greece.

This valuable set of twelve Roman coins of antiquity shows one of the gods of Olympus on each motif. The coins are kept in a top-quality case and complemented by a figure of the Capitoline She-wolf with Romulus and Remus, the two boys.
